in blue) to move that layer to the very bottom of the layers. As for your suggestions, the second one would actually be really nice. That should get the results youre looking for. Thanks for the reminder of "simple troubleshooting". To do this go to File>Dialogues>Create New Dock>Layers Channels & Paths. However, if you select the tab you want to 'drag over', you can click Edit > Copy (or Ctrl+C), open the other image, and click Edit > Paste (or Ctrl + V). Yep, the culprit for me was "PenAttention", which is a cursor highlighting program. To do this, click on the 'File' menu on the application's task bar, and then click 'New.

THANK YOU! In my case, it was because I was running Macromedia Fireworks. Do this by navigating to GIMP's icon in the Windows Start menu or clicking on its desktop shortcut. And then I came across this forum, and then I came across this post. As well as selecting layers using the Layers palette and the keyboard, you can select layers directly in the document window. I Googled for a long time and couldn't find a solution. To select all layers in the document apart from the Background layer choose Select > All Layers, or press Ctrl+Alt+A (Win) or Command+Option+A (Mac). I hope this is helpful to someone somewhere along the line. I was quitting programs one at a time to troubleshoot, and when I exited DisplayFusion, I was suddenly able to drag and drop. I'm adding the program DisplayFusion to the list. Otherwise it looks like you are running AutoCAD on dual monitors and have. You can also right-click when you are hovering there for more options (like not allowing docking). On an image with several layers, the mouse pointer turns to a crosshair when it goes over an element belonging to the current layer. Apparently, this problem has shown up due to incompatibility with a handful of programs - the ones identified elsewhere online are Skype, Kaspersky Antivirus, Camtasia, Snagit, Camstudio, and Tuneup Utilities. It's just docked: move your mouse to the title LAYER PROPERTIES MANAGER, click/hold then drag or click on the arrows/X that appear when you hover there.

I'm still going to post it because I couldn't find the solution anywhere online. I can move layers with the buttons on the bottom of the dialog, but that doesn't allow me to move layers in or out of groups.īetween me starting this post and finishing it, I fixed it. When I let up the mouse button, the layer returns where it came from.

When I pick a layer up, the dotted line indicating where it's supposed to land never shows up.
